Day Three / 3rd Dec

Oh boy, this was one crazy day! Today we faced the difficult task of moving out of my apartment and saying goodbye to my flatmates. I didn’t take many pictures of the day because it was all very mad, but I got to show Caleb and Becca my faves prata and watermelon juice for lunch which was delish!

The move out crew! (I borrowed this photo from Becca’s blog hehe thaaaaanks Becca ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

happy little four monthiversary.

2016-11-25 18.12.22.jpg

I have now been in Singapore for an entire four months (and four days)! The semester is just wrapping up (exams end this coming week), and my flatmates and I are about to move out of our apartment in a week from today. Shao En and Migle are both here on one semester exchanges – so I’m the only one returning here after the break! It’s a weird thought that next year I will have different flatmates in this apartment. These two lovely humans have been my flat sisters, and I feel so blessed to now know them ๐Ÿ™‚ I will miss them a lot, but hooray for friendships! โค

With most of the exchange students around here packing up, there has been a lot of talk around UTown about going home, and being back for Christmas, which has been a funny sort of thing for me, since I am not! My family are out Christmas-tree cutting today, which is strange, and sort of surreal really, for me to be away from. I haven’t been homesick in my four months here, but thinking about being away for December is a whole other monkey ๐Ÿ˜› I love Christmas a lot, and I’ve never had one away from home before! But even though being away from my family over this season terrifies me, I’m excited to experience the different Christmassy things here too. Today Glen, Vera and I are ALSO going to get a Christmas tree! In Singapore, obviously they do not have the space or the climate for Christmas tree farms… so every year, the Christmas trees arrive in shipping containers from faraway lands ๐Ÿ™‚ Imagine that! Hundreds of trees voyaging across the sea to light up distant homes. It’s quite a nice thought I think ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel a sort of affinity with these travelling trees. I have also never chosen a Christmas tree from a shipping container forest, so I’m quite excited!

Since I’ve been pondering recently what this season will bring, it seemed fitting to choose a Christmas cupcake on my monthly excursion to Twelve Cupcakes! This snowman is a vanilla cupcake with cream cheese frosting, and a mini Oreo top hat! He was very yum.

If this snowman could talk, I think he would say, in a shivery (but warm in tone), jolly sort of voice: “Happy four months here! We are about to embark on the very beginning of some fun Christmassy times! Things will be different, for sure, from any other Christmas you’ve ever known… but you will find wonder in places you’ve never seen before! You will find joy in things you’ve never done before! You will find hope in thoughts you’ve never thought before! You will find peace in unexpected places! And you will find love everywhere.”

Because we carry Christmas in our hearts ๐Ÿ™‚ โค

art jam.

On Saturday morning, Shao En and I went to ArtJam! This is an event that UTown Residence puts on every year. They gave usย a blank canvas at the door, and then there were these paint and painting supplies stations that you could go back and forth from to get things to paint with as you needed them! They even gave us snacks and drinks – there are so many amazing free events here!! It was so much fun, and such a relaxing way to start the weekend.

wok the talk // sneaky preview.

So I met my co-hosts today for our radio show which will be called…. da da dunnn… WOK THE TALK! We’ll be on air from 2-3.30pm on Wednesdays, Singapore time, which is 6-7.30pm NZ time, and the good news is – for you lovely peeps at home – it is an internet radio station, so you can tune in anywhere in the world! We will be talking about food, and trying food, and making a lot of food related puns – so if that’s your jam, you can listen in ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think they’re updating the website at the moment, but I’ll post the link sometime before we start next week! Eep!

Today we met up to shoot our poster photos, so here is a sneaky preview of some shots from that ๐Ÿ™‚

On Thursday to Saturday last week, it was the Student Life Fair. This is sort of like what we ย call Clubs Week at Auckland Uni, but like times a million, and with so much free stuff you actually just cannot carry it all.

Everyone gets given a goodie bag that has SO MUCH STUFF – there are vouchers and snacks and stationery and toiletries and even a t-shirt!
