creative retreat // day one.

MY PALS. Sorry for doing a little disappearing act on ya πŸ˜‰ The past few months have been an intense mish mash of mostly a lot of blurry yuck stuff (but some good stuff happened too, and I’m gonna blog about the nice things soon!) – basically it is very hard to maintain a blog when depression and anxiety are all busy bothering you. The good news is, I am getting really good help now, and I’m on a course of anti-depressants which fiiiiinally (I hope? Fingers crossed and pretty please?) seem to be kicking in, and my lovely family, friends and boyfriend are supporting me through this. Things aren’t quite better yet, but I am hopeful that they are maybe starting to be a little bit better (I’m sitting here writing this blog, aren’t I!) and any steps are good steps! the dream team travels across worlds // day 6.

Day Six / 6th Dec

Sentosa Island is a place I had not really been to – not properly anyway – the only time I had been there was when Glen and I went to that wedding, but since we just drove straight to the hotel and it was nighttime I don’t think it properly counts!

Sentosa has MANY things to do, way more than you could see in one day! We spent our day at Universal Studios, which is SO GOOD, and you can definitely spend a whole day there!!

We set off early and made our way over!

We’re hereeee! Universal Studios Singapore has 6 zones which are themed with a truly beautiful attention to detail: LA, New York, Sci Fi City, Ancient Egypt, Jurassic Park and Madagascar. All of the zones were cool, but the coolest thing was that it was like each of us had our own personal zone!

Sarah’s house: New York

New York is my house because it has Sesame Street AND all the retro-ness!!!!!!! I was so excited I couldn’t stand still πŸ™‚

We had lunch in a drive-in diner.

nana and grandad are here! // part one.

The past week my Nana and Grandad have been visiting in Singapore! Despite it being a so called “hell week” at NUS (yes, that is an actual turn of phrase here, the assignments get that mad!), we managed to do SO MUCH STUFF together, so that was really really nice πŸ™‚ It was so lovely to have them here, and to be able to show them around, and just to see them πŸ™‚ ❀ Here’s what we got up to πŸ™‚

Nana and Grandad got here Friday before last – I had a pretty crazy day of classes, but we met up for Pontien noodles for lunch which is one of the yummiest foods of all time! We skyped Mum and Dad too, as you can see πŸ˜‰

more playgrounds: found.

Yesterday I had no classes, and so I took this opportunity to track down some more of Singapore’s heritage playgrounds! I found three more – in MacPherson, Bishan and Ang Mo Kio! Here are some more photos of playgrounds and playground-hunting related adventures πŸ™‚

First stop: MacPherson, to locate another baby dragon playground!

The playground is actually really close to the MRT – but there is so much contruction going on for the extension of the Downtown line that I ended up walking a pretty roundabout route! Which actually was really cool because…

let’s do the MRT hop.

On Saturday I had a SUPER-MEGA-EXPLORE-day. It was a beautiful sunny day, which meant that walking around so much was a very sweaty experience, but very worthwhile! πŸ˜‰ As some of you may know, I am on a mini mission to explore allΒ of Singapore via MRT (the train system here!). Singapore’s MRT is truly a thing of beauty, especially from the perspective of a girl who grew up in Auckland (a really, really lovely city, transportation asideΒ πŸ˜› ). So I have printed out a large MRT map and stuck it on my pinboard, and I’m pinning off the stations as I visit each area! I thought this would be a cool way to do some independent exploring, and also to see the non-touristy parts of the island πŸ™‚

A photo Mum took of me with my map while they were here πŸ˜›

If you want to look up the map yourself to see where the places I explored to in this post are, you can find it here!

Or this one is the to scale one I printed, but note that it doesn’t have the Downtown line – I had to draw that in myself!

a visit from the parentals.

HIIII sorry, I disappeared for three weeks, but I’m back now! It has been a very busy time – my parents came to visit, and then there were midterms and there were a few stressful preoccupying happenings inbetween! But as of yesterday afternoon (after my last midterm ended), life has resumed a more normal pace, so here I am πŸ™‚ With many adventures to update you on! Here’s what happened while the parents were here in a brief summary form that really can’t quite do justice to the hundreds of photos we took but I’LL TRY πŸ™‚

Day One

The parents arrived! I showed them around UTown and we had dinner at Waa Cow, one of the campus restaurants πŸ™‚
