happy little four monthiversary.

I have now been in Singapore for an entire four months (and four days)! The semester is just wrapping up (exams end this coming week), and my flatmates and I are about to move out of our apartment in a week from today. Shao En and Migle are both here on one semester exchanges – so I’m the only one returning here after the break! It’s a weird thought that next year I will have different flatmates in this apartment. These two lovely humans have been my flat sisters, and I feel so blessed to now know them πŸ™‚ I will miss them a lot, but hooray for friendships! ❀

With most of the exchange students around here packing up, there has been a lot of talk around UTown about going home, and being back for Christmas, which has been a funny sort of thing for me, since I am not! My family are out Christmas-tree cutting today, which is strange, and sort of surreal really, for me to be away from. I haven’t been homesick in my four months here, but thinking about being away for December is a whole other monkey πŸ˜› I love Christmas a lot, and I’ve never had one away from home before! But even though being away from my family over this season terrifies me, I’m excited to experience the different Christmassy things here too. Today Glen, Vera and I are ALSO going to get a Christmas tree! In Singapore, obviously they do not have the space or the climate for Christmas tree farms… so every year, the Christmas trees arrive in shipping containers from faraway lands πŸ™‚ Imagine that! Hundreds of trees voyaging across the sea to light up distant homes. It’s quite a nice thought I think πŸ™‚ I feel a sort of affinity with these travelling trees. I have also never chosen a Christmas tree from a shipping container forest, so I’m quite excited!

Since I’ve been pondering recently what this season will bring, it seemed fitting to choose a Christmas cupcake on my monthly excursion to Twelve Cupcakes! This snowman is a vanilla cupcake with cream cheese frosting, and a mini Oreo top hat! He was very yum.

If this snowman could talk, I think he would say, in a shivery (but warm in tone), jolly sort of voice: “Happy four months here! We are about to embark on the very beginning of some fun Christmassy times! Things will be different, for sure, from any other Christmas you’ve ever known… but you will find wonder in places you’ve never seen before! You will find joy in things you’ve never done before! You will find hope in thoughts you’ve never thought before! You will find peace in unexpected places! And you will find love everywhere.”

Because we carry Christmas in our hearts πŸ™‚ ❀

This Saturday marked my third month here in Singapore! So, you know what that means… CUPCAKE TIME πŸ˜‰ For my third month celebration I selected a strawberry lemonade cupcake. Glen and I were having a movie time, so I got him a cookies and cream one too (one of his favourite flavours of food; he’s pretty easy to please πŸ˜› ) so that we could celebrate together!!! We munched these while watching Bewitched, which is a fab movie, and totally worthy of a celebration occasion πŸ˜› I can report that this cupcake is extra delicious due to the fact that there is actual berry in the cake itself! Very yum.

how to spend a holiday day.

Today was Hari Raya Haji, the Muslim festival of sacrifice, and also therefore a public holiday! I started the day with a nice long sleep in and then had a very lazy morning/really more like early afternoon, which was very nice πŸ™‚ While I was still in my pyjamas it started bucketing down with rain! Since this morning was VERY VERY warm, I thought it would be quite pleasant to go outside and play πŸ™‚ I tried to convince Glen that he would also find this fun, but he didn’t think he would (how strange!! πŸ˜› ), so he stood in the doorway laughing at me and taking photos instead πŸ˜›

mooncakes & undercover antics.

On Thursday it is the Mid-Autumn Festival. This is a fun festival that is about gathering together and giving thanks, which is very nice I think.Β It is also very exciting because of all of the lanterns and mooncakes everywhere! Eating mooncakes is such a big part of this celebration that people usually just call it the Mooncake Festival. To celebrate, the lovely Pam and Sam (lindy hop buddies!), invited Glen and I over for dinner and mooncake feasting!

happy little one monthiversary.

Today marks one month since I arrived in Singapore! I still feel so new, and still like things aren’t fully underway yet, but at the same time, I feel so comfortable here, and like I’ve been in Singapore for ages and ages! There has been an abundance of ups, and a fair share of downs, but in the past few weeks I feel like I’ve already learnt so much, and done so many things I never would have dreamed of before.

I bought myself a cupcake to celebrate this occasion! It is from a shop called Twelve Cupcakes, which has SO MUCH HYPE here, but I can tell you that the hype is not lying, because this cupcake was so fluffy and light and yum πŸ™‚

If this cupcake could talk, I’m sure it would be saying something like “Yay! Go you! You can do this! You’re already doing this! How great!” πŸ™‚ I think sometimes it is good to eat a cupcake and remind yourself of these things! πŸ™‚
