first broadcast.

Our producer, Ivy, and my co-hosts, Sandy and Lavanya! Feeling happy after a successful show!

Today was our first broadcast on ‘Wok the Talk’ on Radio Pulze!! It was so much fun, and I’m so excited for next week. It was really tricky for the first 10 minutes or so, but after that we got into the swing of it, and it started feeling much more comfortable! I don’t think I will be so nervous next week now that I know what to expect. 🙂

I’ve never done anything quite like that before! I think it will be a really amazing experience, and definitely not one I would have EVER thought that I’d have! I’m enjoying taking the opportunity of this exchange to reach a bit outside of my comfort zone. Somehow everything feels easier in comparison to moving overseas for a year!!  It’s sort of given me this chance to be brave, and take risks, and do things just because, and that’s nice I think.

If you missed our broadcast today and would like to listen to it, it will be airing again sometime on Sunday! I’m not sure of the time yet, but I’ll let you know 🙂 And of course, we’ll be back next week on Wednesday at 2-3.30pm (Singapore time!) right here: !

Catch ya on the airwavessss 😉 ❤

On Saturday morning, Shao En and I went to ArtJam! This is an event that UTown Residence puts on every year. They gave us a blank canvas at the door, and then there were these paint and painting supplies stations that you could go back and forth from to get things to paint with as you needed them! They even gave us snacks and drinks – there are so many amazing free events here!! It was so much fun, and such a relaxing way to start the weekend.

wok the talk // sneaky preview.

So I met my co-hosts today for our radio show which will be called…. da da dunnn… WOK THE TALK! We’ll be on air from 2-3.30pm on Wednesdays, Singapore time, which is 6-7.30pm NZ time, and the good news is – for you lovely peeps at home – it is an internet radio station, so you can tune in anywhere in the world! We will be talking about food, and trying food, and making a lot of food related puns – so if that’s your jam, you can listen in 😉 I think they’re updating the website at the moment, but I’ll post the link sometime before we start next week! Eep!

Today we met up to shoot our poster photos, so here is a sneaky preview of some shots from that 🙂

happy little one monthiversary.

2016-08-22 18.27.11.jpg

Today marks one month since I arrived in Singapore! I still feel so new, and still like things aren’t fully underway yet, but at the same time, I feel so comfortable here, and like I’ve been in Singapore for ages and ages! There has been an abundance of ups, and a fair share of downs, but in the past few weeks I feel like I’ve already learnt so much, and done so many things I never would have dreamed of before.

I bought myself a cupcake to celebrate this occasion! It is from a shop called Twelve Cupcakes, which has SO MUCH HYPE here, but I can tell you that the hype is not lying, because this cupcake was so fluffy and light and yum 🙂

If this cupcake could talk, I’m sure it would be saying something like “Yay! Go you! You can do this! You’re already doing this! How great!” 🙂 I think sometimes it is good to eat a cupcake and remind yourself of these things! 🙂

a whole bunch of new.

I have discovered a thing – doing something completely different is a rather effective antidote to perfectionism. Having no expectations on yourself is very freeing! Also, I feel like living overseas was such a big step that doing anything else is just a little hop away. Anything is possible! Hello world, you oyster! 🙂

So brimming with confidence in doing wild and uncharacteristic things, I auditioned to be a radio host on NUS’ student radio, Radio Pulze, yesterday… aaaaaand I got in!! I’m going to have a radio show!!!! EEEP!

student life fair.

On Thursday to Saturday last week, it was the Student Life Fair. This is sort of like what we  call Clubs Week at Auckland Uni, but like times a million, and with so much free stuff you actually just cannot carry it all.

Everyone gets given a goodie bag that has SO MUCH STUFF – there are vouchers and snacks and stationery and toiletries and even a t-shirt!

happy 51st, singapore.

August 9th is National Day in Singapore, a sort of birthday celebration of Singapore’s independence. It’s a public holiday (so even though semester just started yesterday, we already get a day off!), and every year there is a big parade (which, I’ve heard, is very, very difficult to actually get tickets to) and a big fireworks display!

I spent National Day with the lovely Glen, and here are some photos of our adventures!

first class, first impressions

  1. It is cool that this class is in the library, I like the library.
  2. It is pretty great taking a psychology and language class focusing on Singaporean bilingualism and Singlish.
  3. It is even greater when pretty much your entire class is Singaporean and bilingual.
  4. I think this might be quite hard.
  6. And the lecturer is super cool.
  7. And we’re encouraged to use Singlish in class!
  8. And THEN he started talking about developmental psychology studies in relation to language, like object permanance and initiating joint attention and this is very exciting I just about lost it.
  9. Happy little language/brains fangirl 🙂
